The letter came that fateful day,
To tear you and I apart.
The weeks before you were forced on your way,
Were a blur of a blackened art.
For months I agonised for your return to date,
In sorrow deep enough for fiction.
Until on the dreaded list I read of your fate:
"Missing In Action"
In years that passed, I waited alone,
While no news came of the part of myself.
Hordes of soldiers were flocking back home,
But your file just gathered dust on the shelf.
I knew not if you were dead or alive,
I knew not what to do.
I had closed my heart, praying you would survive,
To love again, seemed taboo.
Time flew by and my hope began to dwindle,
Though I still clutched at your small chance.
But soon all was left was a flickering candle,
Quivering in its uncertain dance.
What was I to think, I was torn,
Should I love again or retain my faith?
Surrender hope or stay lovelorn,
Or choose another to take your place?
My anguish one morn was put to an end,
When finally, I learned,
That I had to let go, could not pretend,
For I was awaiting one who would never return.
The letter came that fateful day,
To tear you and I apart.
But 'Nam was not where the fighting truly lay,
The real war was within my heart.

Die For You
You say I've given you nothing,
That you can hold in your hand,
But there's so much more to love and life,
Than you seem to understand
All these contradictions,
Between what you do and what you say,
Why can't you get it through your head?
You can't always have it your way!
(You ask me what I'd give,
To you, just to please
You're only happy when I give,
When I'm on my knees...)
I'd give you anything!
Even my last breath of life,
Heaven for myself, I would deny!
Can you feel it across the miles,
As I cry!
Can you feel it as I fade,
As I slowly slip away,
Can you feel it...
As I die for you...?
The power of persuassion,

Daylight Forsaken
Do you remember when Aurora
invoked dawn in the sky above us?
How we watched her colors spread
above the highway, the gas station - across the fields,
painting reality in vivid splendor
as we traversed its mundane streets
bathed in the frail whispers of possibility?
We disappeared into the trees
where we spilled our secrets,
let them echo in the early morning stillness
of the orchards; a murmured resonance
played to the tempo of our heartbeats.
We didn't even care when reality invaded
[in the form of an angry farmer]
and shooed us back into its clutches;
it could not break the spell.
Or the night we lost hours
in each others' eyes,
[you kn
